Ronnie grew up in the apartment construction and development business started by his father in 1959. After earning a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977, Ronnie worked for his father’s company on apartment construction sites in Houston. Working on-site, he received hands-on construction knowledge and experience. In 1981, Ronnie graduated from the University of Houston Law Centre and started working as a real estate attorney for a downtown Houston law firm.
In 1986, after practicing real estate law for several years, Ronnie co-founded The Morgan Group, Inc., which grew to be one of the Top 50 private apartment developers in the nation. In 1998, he moved from Houston to San Diego and over the next 10 years, the western region of his company developed over 3,500 units in Southern California becoming the most profitable division of the company. In 2011, Ronnie sold his interest in The Morgan Group, Inc. to his brother, Mike.
Since then, Ronnie has been involved in creating four separate distressed housing funds known as the Alegria Real Estate Funds. With over 400 transactions, Alegria became one of the largest buyers of single-family homes in San Diego County. In addition, Ronnie has formed two joint ventures to again develop institutional quality apartment projects. MKS Residential is a partnership involving the former West Coast development team of The Morgan Group, Inc. MKS has completed two new apartment communities in Boulder and Denver, Colorado.
More recently, under the banner of Morgan Holdings, Ronnie has joined with Larry and Rob Bond of The Bond Companies
www.bondcompanies.com to further expand development efforts across the country. Morgan Bond projects in development include Inspire Southpark, 367 units in Charlotte, North Carolina and 1001 W. Chicago Avenue, 363 units in two high-rise buildings located in the River West section of Chicago.
With the addition of Inspire Southpark and 1001 W. Chicago Avenue (respectively, the 49th and 50th projects developed), Ronnie has been involved over the past 35 years with the development of over 15,500 apartment units, aggregating over $2B in value.
In addition to several non-profit and school board positions, Ronnie was the 1995 President of the Houston Apartment Association and the 2005/2006 Chairman of the San Diego Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO).
